What you are about to read is not a story about
hiking in Durmitor National Park, although that's what I did there.
Somehow all my trips usually end up with me doing what I thought
I'd never do and having great time doing it.

While arranging the trip to Montenegro with my friend Przemek,
I gave him a promise that I would put my hiking talents to a test.
Not that I had any hiking talents since I had never been
on a proper hiking adventure before.
Still, I made a promise and there was no way out of it
as I am not the kind of person who would break promises.
During the first week of my stay I admired mountain tops from a safe distance,
but then the second week began...

Like I said, I had never been on a hiking trip before
so to me it really did not matter where we go.
All mountains looked equally frighteningly high, yet beautiful.
Przemek opted for Durmitor because he wanted to see it himself.
I trusted him completely (you'd think a 30-year old woman would be smarter than that!).

The base for hiking trips in the Durmitor area is Zabljak,
a small town living almost exclusively on skiing (winter)
and hiking (the rest of the year) tourism.
It was a relief to leave the unbearably hot Podgorica
knowing that Zabljak would offer temperatures as low as +30 Celsius.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Beautiful landscape. Well-marked trails.

We paid a short visit to the Durmitor in May and enjoyed it a lot. I love your hiking story and map hunting! May be next time, we will try some hiking but not to Babotov Kuk!

I think this page needs more explanation. Who is Mr. Fitness for one (IJ visited you already?)?? And why the last tip says "Forgiven"? Oh please tell more our Wild Beauty Zdenka!!!
