Monchique Travel Guide: 10 reviews and 17 photos

Monchique was once a Roman settlement located in the hills overlooking the Algarve. The settlement was based around a natural hot springs and sulfur springs. The Romans, as the locals do today, would go to the springs and baths for relaxation and for the therapeutic properties of the sulfur baths.

You can still see the Roman ruins here as well as some of the baths that are still in use today.

Lovely photos and useful tips on Monchique. I plan to be in the area near the end of May, so I may have to give those Roman baths a try!

you get into many portuguese places by the main door :-))...but really this door is very nice with its knots....not far from portimao to enjoy the sea...
