Monsaraz is directly east of Evora. As one approaches Monsaraz, the town looms up on top of a high hill to the right of the highway. Monsaraz is a fortified town on the border with Spain and has defended Portugal from the Spanish invaders for years and years.
The "Torre das Ferticeries" (witches tower) dominates the castle structure and towers over one end of the village. It is now used as a bullring and as a soccer field. |
