A few years ago a friend went scuba diving in "Honduras" and told me about the great diving in the area. It sorta stuck in my head, so after returning to the US when planning my next dive vacation, I looked it up and found the island of Roatan. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous about the trip, as I usually know more about my destination and know people who have been there. But it must have been fate because from the moment we arrived, I fell in love with this charming island paradise.
We were greeted at the airport by the friendly people from Anthony's Key Resort who helped us get through customs and provided us with transportation to the resort. Unfortunately it was fairly dark at the time so we would have to wait until morning to truly appreciate the beauty of the island.
The next morning when we got our first view of the island and the resort, we weren't disappointed. Anthony's Key Resort is a very well run dive resort with great food and absolutely gorgeous views. I don't think we could have picked a better place.
Roatan has no huge resorts with pools and room service, but for beautiful scenery and rustic island charm, it can't be beat.
Update:
Well we just returned from our 9th trip to Roatan and are still just as enamored as ever. We had a great time as usual and wish we could have stayed even longer.
Since our first trip in 2002, we have purchased property (2003) and started building a house. One of the goals of this trip was to check on the state of the house and see how long before it is finished. I must say we were happy to see that the house is coming along well and aside from a few minor changes it is matching our expectations.
We can't wait to make this beautiful island our second home.
- Pros:Beautiful and relaxing
- Cons:Having to leave
- In a nutshell:Good diving and a beautiful island

Hello Dion! Lovely page on Roatan! Hope you get to move there one day. Happy birthday from Finland!
Great colours of sky and clear water. Good accommodation tip, a bit expensive place though :-)
Looks like a great place to visit.....
Your pictures of Roatan are gorgeous, I think you have found paradise. Too bad about the little deer.
Enjoyed the pictures and the stay. The critters were fun to see and play with.
