Hawaii is one of the premier tourist locations in America. And for good reason! If you know what you are doing you can have a top notch vacation. If not, you will waste a lot of time and money on pictures of tourist traps. I went to Hawaii twice. The first time was to the Island of Maui with my family. The second was with a friend while I was still in high school. There is a funny story behind that second trip. My mother has worked for American Airlines for many years, and I have been fortunate to freeload off her benefits (VT tip, if you like to travel, find a way to get related to a ticket agent! :-). I had a high school friend who went into the Navy named Anton. One day I was sitting backstage of the theatre that my parents own and I got a telephone call. It was Anton. "Where are you?" I said. "Somewhere in the Pacific, I think", was his reply. "Hey, do you want to meet me in Hawaii in a week." Hmm. Let me think about it. "OK!" So I talked to my mother and made the trip. 4 days before I left I asked my good buddy Joel Marquette if he wanted to come and he said, "Sure!" We are both a bit spontaneous, and I praise God that he came with, since Anton sat in the bar most of the trip. Anyway, from those experiences come these words of advice. Enjoy!
