I visited the city for 3 days in the business trip. To be true I saw not much and my colleague just show me the city in 1 hour excursion around the city before my departure. The first settlements here dayed back to 1701 and the name was Sheglovka. In 1918 the settlement got the name city, Sheglovsk, and in 1932 renamed to Kemerovo. The city is one of the center of the coal industry of Russia. |

BruceDunning Fri Mar 27, 2009 21:43 UTC I just learned some about the city on TV, and it was fascinating-with all the industry and mining. You found some gem structures there. | Kuznetsov_Sergey Tue Nov 7, 2006 13:33 UTC Thanks Andrew for Siberia's cities popularisation! I've never been to Kemerovo and knew very few about it. Now I've got to know more... Most of all impressed by a bridge through Tom'. Spasibo! | globetrott Tue Nov 7, 2006 06:06 UTC an interesting page about a typical russian town, far away from Moscow and St.Pete. I like that watch-tower-belfry, it was obviously the only kind of material they could get and they certainly could be proud of their idea to build it that way !! | antistar Sun Nov 5, 2006 15:11 UTC Great picture of the smoke stacks. Those coal burning fires produce a smog that is a real choker. |
