The youngest city with million of citizens

I visited Novosibirsk in the end of October of 2006 during my business trip. I spent 5 days in the city and it was great to walk around the city.
The history of the city related with building works of the bridge crossing Ob' River in 1891-1897 as a part of Trans-Syberian Railways to Vladivostok. The city foundation is 1893 with Novonikolaevsk name. After revolution in Novonikolaevsk in 1921 all Syberian central departments were moved from Omsk and the city became the capital of Western Syberian region. In 1925 the city nam was changed in Novosibirsk. During WWII in 1941-1945 Novosibirsk was a place where many theatres of the cities that were attacked by fascists' army were evacuated in Novosibirsk. Besides many exhibits of museums in Moscow, Leningrad (St Petersburg), Novgorod, Sevastopol' were evacuated to the city as well.
The interesting fact is Novosibirsk has a million citizens in some earlier than 70 years after foundation. For the comparision I give examples: Chikago did that in 90 years after foundation, New-York in 250 years, Moscow more than in 700 years.

I enjoyed this insight into a place that I have not heard much about! Those are beautiful old buildings, such lovely architecture! I guess it was still too early for the full Siberian winter to have hit when you were there :)

Very interesting page with brilliant photos. I especially like the pictures of the bridges. I would love to visit Novosibirsk on my own sometime in the future. Keep up the good work ... :-)

In my opinion it is necessary to make update to the picture of Surikov "Ermak wins the Siberia ". In a new updating I would call it "Andrey Bugulma wins the Siberia ". Congratulations with the finish of your business trip! Spasibo for interesting page.
