I stayed in the city during 4 days. I liked my staying, it was very interesting because I've never seen so many people of different nationalities in one place. Amsterdam was founded in the end of XII century around the dam in the Amstel River. In XIV-XV centuries the city had the rapid development and became known in the region. Then, 1585-1672, the period that has a name Golden Age. It was time of commercial success of the city. In 1672 the city felt under military attacks of French and English troops and lost its important role, although it played a role of the commercial city. The period of th end of XVIII century and during occupation of French troops in the beginning of XIX century the recession happens in the region but after that, especially in the end of XIX century Amsterdam got back its important role in the trade. Now Amsterdam is the capital of the country with more free laws in comparision with other European countries in my opinion. |
