"DELFT" a Delft Travel Page by bugulma

I visited Delft with one day trip in June of 2006 (stayed in The Hague). I saw pictures of the city in the book and decided to visit it. Besides I like Flemish and Dutch paintings of XVII-XVIII century and I read some authors were born and lived in the town (for example, Johannes Vermeer, buried in Oude Kerk). The city looks like a toy one for me and very tiny.
The town was first mentioned in 1246. Some books said that the town nowadays is in the same size like in XIV century, so it is still tiny and beautiful. In 1536 and in 1654 the hreat fires happened but the town was rebuilt both times. In the beginnig of XVII century the Dutch East India Company was founded and one of the offices were in Delft since 1602. Thus the town was in the center of the cultural and business centers of Dutch towns.
