"SALZBURG" a Salzburg Travel Page by bugulma

I've been to Salzburg in January 3 on Michael's (Globetrott) invitation to spend a day in the city. I arrived in 9 am in the morning and we had walking around the city till my train in 8 pm. Salzburg is very impressive city, even in winter. I think if I visited it in summer I would go to mad.
The first settlement in this place were in Roman times already. Then, after Roman Empire's downfall, bishop Rupert founded the city in VII century. Since that times Salzburg was a bishop land and were ruled by bishops. Present-day view the city got in XVII-XVIII centuries, when castles, churchs and many houses were built. In 1816 Land Salzburg became a part of Habsburg's Austria. In XX century many festivals took place in the city and Salzburg is the cultural center of Austria that many tourists visit nowadays. Foreigners know about the city with film "The sound of Music", which is based on real story. But Michael said to me that inhabitants almost don't know about this film. So it's just good advertising of the city and just happy-end-story.
Salzburg is worth visiting and I'm sure you'll find something special for yourself. My favorite impression is fortress (Hohensalzburg Festung) you see in the photo.
