  • Favorite Thing: The red-marble sepulcher of Emperor Frederick III, sculpted from 1467 to 1513 by Niclas Gerhaert van Leyden; the pulpit, a work from 1514-15 by Anton Pilgram (who put his own relief portrait underneath it as his signature); the Altarpiece of Wiener Neustadt (Wiener Neust?dter Altar), a Gothic winged altar from 1447 - and the tomb of Prince Eugene of Savoy, dating from 1754. I was upstairs by the way. 343 steps :-) Some pics are in travelogue.

  • Favorite Thing: The Peterskirche was built in 792 and is together with the Ruprechtskiche among the oldest churches in Vienna. In 1701 it was pulled down and in the following 30 years it has been rebuilt by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt. The church is an adaption to the Petersdom in Rome. In the interior you can enjoy the rich baroque decor.

  • Favorite Thing: For more than seven centuries, the great empire of the Habsburgs was ruled from the Imperial Palace. Today, the Gothic Imperial Chapel, is a remnant of the Imperial Palace during the Middle Ages. In the center of the old city, you can admire the splendor and magnificence of the daily life of the noblest family of the Habsburg monarchy when you visit the private apartments and state rooms. Numerous museums and collections represent the imperial family?s passion for art. Originally a medieval fortified castle dating from the 13th century, the Hofburg was extended by each emperor, eventually coming to resemble a 'city within a city'. The sprawling, asymmetric complex which extends over 240,000 m? consists of 18 wings, 19 courtyards and 2,600 rooms in which nearly 5,000 people still work and live today.

  • Favorite Thing: The history of the earth and the breathtaking variety of nature can be practically experienced due to 20 million objects: From insects to gemstones and minerals and pterodactyls, the Habsburgs united everything under the roof of this museum near the Imperial Palace. Numerous taxidermy specimens of animals that are either extinct or threatened with extinction make the collection all the more valuable.

Amusing to see Vienna in snow on your pics, Andrey! Nevertheless I recognised several places which I happened to see in summer of 1996. Really it's time to revisit Vienna!

Although it's been many years since I visited Vienna, I still have fond memories of this beautiful city - esp. Peterkirche, Rathaus & Hofburk. They all look even lovelier in the snow. Also thanks for visiting my new Havana pages.

101% RECOMENDING;we arrived 8 a.m, and although we had to check in around 2 p.m- they let us in the room around 10;gave us free breakfast on self catering, was just great. Excellent value for money!
