Capital of classical music I arrived to Vienna in December 30 that to meet new year, 2006. Unfortunately the weather wasn't good and all 2 days I was in the city, it was snowing. In spite of not ong distance for looing at the sightseeings in the streets I liked the city and next time I'd like to stay for a week at least. In any way I think I saw a lot and special thanks to Michael (globetrott in VT) who showed me many interesting things in the city and told interesting stories about the city. |
| | New Year Eve 2005/2006 I spent New Year eve in Vienna, in the hotel where Michael works, with wonderful view to fireworks. There were 4 VTers in that time: me, Michael (globetrott), Holger (HORSCHECK) and Manfred (MEdelmann). |
| | A bit of history Vienna means white city and was mentioned firstly 4000 years ago. In I BC Romans built a town here Windabonna. In the end of VI century it had a name Vien and in X century Babbenberg family got this area under control and Vienna became the capital of the Babbenberg's fields in 1156. In 1246 Habsburgs family began to rule Austria with capital in Vienna and it lasted till 1918. Many famous people were born and lived in the city. Besides the city was under the storm in 1529 and in 1683, Napoleon troops were there as well as occupation by German troops in 1939. |

Kuznetsov_Sergey Mon Jan 14, 2008 16:34 UTC Amusing to see Vienna in snow on your pics, Andrey! Nevertheless I recognised several places which I happened to see in summer of 1996. Really it's time to revisit Vienna! | LoriPori Mon Dec 3, 2007 11:50 UTC Although it's been many years since I visited Vienna, I still have fond memories of this beautiful city - esp. Peterkirche, Rathaus & Hofburk. They all look even lovelier in the snow. Also thanks for visiting my new Havana pages. | Zara168 Thu Aug 31, 2006 13:01 UTC 101% RECOMENDING;we arrived 8 a.m, and although we had to check in around 2 p.m- they let us in the room around 10;gave us free breakfast on self catering, was just great. Excellent value for money! | Propermark Wed Jul 12, 2006 17:11 UTC When I was in Vienna I remember that everything looked nice to me but I was really impressed when I saw Stephansdom.. amazing! |
