  • Favorite Thing: I think it is the most interesting place in the city. In 1078 the castle of the Counts of Tuebingen was mentioned for the first time. The today's castle which hosts numerous institutes and collections of the university, derives mainly from the 16th century. Its most beautiful decoration is the Renaissance portal built around 1606 in the style of a Roman triumphal arch, whose center shows the emblem of the Duchy of Wuerttemberg.

  • Favorite Thing: From the castle the visitor has views to the city, as well as to the Neckar and Ammer valleys and the extended region up to the horizon of the Swabian Alb in the south. There are several places in the castle where you can see enjoy views. Don't pass!

  • Favorite Thing: After the complex restoration of the castle some of the university's cultural and academic institutions were relocated there, the collections of which are open to the public. Part of the highlights are numerous archeological findings and replicas. I haven't any wish to go inside that day although I'm sure there are many interesting exhibits.

  • Favorite Thing: The visually dominating City Hall was built with three stories in 1435, in 1508 heightened by a fourth level, and in 1511 decorated with an artfully made astronomical clock by Johannes Stöffler. The clock, which still functions, shows the course of the stars and the phases of the moon.

  • Favorite Thing: The main facade, with its picturesque appearance, was completed in 1877. On the first floor you will find the Main Conference Hall; on the second floor is the Old Reception Hall. I think the major of the city had a speech in the balcoon you see on the pic.

  • Favorite Thing: The church mentioned for the first time in 1191. During 1470-1490 church got late Gothical style. The top of the tower was added only at the end of the 16th century. The church is situated on the crossing Kirchgasse and Nueustrasse streets.

  • Favorite Thing: Interior of the church is worth visiting. As one of the most important churches in W?rttemberg (due to the support of the Duke Eberhard) it has one of the nicest Gothic rod screens in South Germany, an altar of D?rer's pupil Hans Sch?ufelein; all was made in the end of XV century. I found info that the church was a kind of family tomb of the Wurttemberg Dukes since the end of XV century till the beginning of XVII century.

  • Favorite Thing: The former academy of knights was built from 1588 to 1592. Until the Thirty Years‘ War it had been the favourite academy of the protestant aristocracy in all of Europe. Sine 1817 it has been the catholic students‘ college. At the corner of Lange Gasse and Collegiumsgasse the building hat the emblem ot the Duchy of Württemberg from 1593 on top of the portal. The Latin inscription on the left is translated on the right (on the pic).

  • Favorite Thing: There are wonderful views in Platanenallee that is situated in the island. Colourful line of houses, the Hohentuebingen castle, Neckar River of course and the Platenenallee itself are available to enjoy here. I think it is more popular place for making photos than other parts of the city.

Tübingen seems to be a popular travel destination in Germany for foreigners, only I haven't been there yet. I just hope you haven't eaten too many cakes in the bakery at the corner.

Interesting page on Tubingen Andrey, especially the Hohentuebingen Castle. The museum and views from the Castle are also a must see.
