Red-yellow city of Flanders I stayed in Lille on my way from Brussels to Paris for 1 night. As a matter of fact I saw some pictures of the city in a month to my European vacation and decided to see this nice city. I really liked it, not big, with many interesting architecture styled buildings and of cause I liked the main red-yellow style in colour of the houses in the streets. First mention of Lille was in 1066 and it is become one of the main cities of Flanders area. In 1369 the only child of Louis de Male, last Count of Flanders married Duke of Burgundy and Lille, as other Flanders territory, got under Burgundy's control. In 1477 the city was under control of Low Spanish countries and since 1667 Lille was joined to France. |

I never knew he built a citadel in Lille. | LoriPori Mon Jun 18, 2007 12:12 UTC Lille looks to be a wonderful city to visit. Especially impressive is the Vielle Bourse, Opera and Belffroi. Thanks also Andrey for visiting some of my new Greece pages. Hans and I had a wonderful time there. |
