NANCY

Nice city of Lorraine

Duke Palace
Nancy, it was one of the delightful impressions of my life. Quiet and beautiful city, it’s the good reason to spend here time to relax completely. I found here many interesting historical places, exactly what I like to. I've been to Nancy 4 days, or, it's better to say, 3 nights, from December 22 to December 25. I spend whole day in the city in my first day here and Christmas Eve. I must say I lost Christmas because in December 24 I've been to Luxembourg where I spent whole day since early morning and when I came back in evening I wanted to sleep and unfortunately I missed Christmas. If to be true I was not disappointed too much because it’s not celebration day in Russia.
The first settlement was here in IX century, but in 1050 around Duke Gerard built here first fortified town and called it Nanciacum. The place was the stronghold of the church and in XI-XII centuries the first buildings of Saint Epvre Basilica appeared. Some years later the town was burnt down during local wars. But to the end of XV century the town had stone walls and became the capital of Duchy, which was existed between French Realm and Holy Roman-German Empire. In 1736 Lorraine was taken under control of France and the province was given to Stanislas Leszczynski, the former exiled king of Poland, whose son in law was Louis XV. Since then many buildings were built in the city. In 1755 Stanislas Square was inaugurated. In 1766 Stanislas died and Lorraine became a French province.

Nancy is the twin city of my hometown - so we really should go there and visit. It looks very nice!!! Great hotel recommendation, too!
