French people among German-style buildings :-) I have been to Strasbourg over one day only. It was one of my dreams for travelling, to be here some day. I was very close to the city two years ago but I hadn't possibility. Now I completely fulfilled my dream :-) The main impression of the city for me is I was in the movie tale about middle ages that I watched in my childhood. Another impression is the old city looks like German city and other parts of the city are close to French cities' view. For me it is wonderful place to spend here any romantic event in your life and I think I'll do it for something special in my life. First fortification here was built by Romans in 12 BC, the camp's name was Angertoratum. When the Romans left the place under attacks of Barbarians, the place was renamed - Strateburgum that means 'town of roads'. In Middle Ages the city was a free city of German Empire. in 1681 French troops entered the city and it was the beginning of French era. After French-Prussian war 1870-1871 the city moved to Germany and was under German control until 1918. In 1949 the council of Europe was organized and is situated in the city. So the city is stiil the city of the roads even in political meaning :-) |
