French Kings' Castle

Castle
I was in Versailles during a day in December of 2004 and it seems it's necessary to spend whole day that to see everything. It's better to come in summer (or spring, or autumn) because when I was here in December all fountains didn't work. Nevertheless it was unforgettable when I was in the palace and in the garden.
In June of 2006 I visited Versailles and I hoped to enjoy fountains. But unfortunately they didn't and besides the castle was under reconstruction, so I just had a walking around and had a sun bath near of the Grand Canal. In any way it was nice to see Versailles in summer.
Versailles is situated in 17 km to South-West from Paris. History of Palace began in 1631, when Louis XIII built a little castle here instead of the hunting house. The Golden Age of the palace is closely associated with names of Louis XIV and Louis XV, especially with Louis XIV, Sun King, and his architecture Louis Le Vau in 1668-1670. After the death of Le Vau in 1670, the building works were going on by Francois d'Orbay. In May 6, 1682, Versailles became the official residence of the Court of France. Peter I, the Russian Tsar, visited Versailles in 1717. Another interesting thing happened here in January of 1871 during the war between Prussia and France. Exactly here, in Versailles, in the hall of mirrors, Wilhelm I was crowned as a German Emperor. Germany was united and got the first German Emperor.
