Dresden. Well, it is very hard for me to explain all my emotions. All my words are beyond descriptions of the beauty of the city. I was struck of the city, its views, its spirit, its amazing suburbs with castles and its people, of course. My special thanks to Ingo, german_eagle in VT, for the interesting stories about Dresden, for time he spent with me that to show Dresden and for fantastic present to my birthday. I thought to come to Dresden in spring last year but only in December I arrived to the city. Even in December the city is wonderful and I'm afraid my heart could not get so much impression if I visit the city in spring or summer. But it is one of my desired wish to go to Dresden in spring/summer time and to enjoy the city and surroundings in green colour. Besides I want to have walking route along Elbe River and I’m sure it could be fantastic. I spent a week in Dresden. First time in my life I was in the opera and it happened in Dresden. Dresden. First settlement, in accordance with historical researches, was here in VI AD and citizens, with Slavic roots, had a name "dredzane" that means "inhabitants of the swamped forest". The city appeared here in the beginning of XIII AD. In 1485 the city became a residence of Saxon Duke. In 1547 Dresden became the capital of Saxony. In the end of XVII century the city was burnt down but then it was rebuilt by August I The Strong and the city got a name Florence on the Elbe. February 13, 1945, is the black day for the city indeed. In that day British and American aviation bombed the city. It was in the end of WWII and I really don't know whether it was necessary to wipe Dresden off the face of the Earth. I saw photos after that bombing and it's frightfully. Fortunately the city was rebuilt and nowadays it's possible to say the city has view, which it had before that day. |

HORSCHECK Thu Mar 27, 2008 21:45 UTC Andrey, fabulous page about Dresden. It brings back good memories of our recent Easter trip. We had the same guide like you. Unfortunately we didn't climb the Dreikonigskirche. The views seem to be amazing. | mvtouring Mon Mar 3, 2008 05:24 UTC Nice tips you have here ;-) | yumyum Sun Feb 3, 2008 19:58 UTC Dresden is a possible destination for Easter. The inside of the opera house looks splendid. | sbao1 Sat Apr 29, 2006 01:28 UTC What mode is the cheapest and relatively fast way to see surrounding areas in Dresden such as Austria, Czech, slovakia and Hungary? Ryanair is cheap its route is from London and I do not want to pay $99 one way for any air passes. |
