Many people think of Prague as just being a medieval Old Town with a very big castle attached. Well, if you keep your eyes peeled and know where to look, Prague has some stunning Art Nouveau architecture and interiors. Better even than Brussels, maybe?
Oh, and it also has lots of cheap cafes and restaurants full of other people who like to drink too much. (Have put some of our cheapie eating finds in the restaurant tips.) Sometimes this is funny, but the aftermath is a bit pongy (see my warnings tip). We visited on a very hot weekend at the end of August, so it's probably not as smelly when the weather is a bit colder.
We stayed at a marvellous hotel, K&K Hotel Central, which as its name suggests is in the centre, just east of Old Town. It's also a very important Art Nouveau building in its own right, and we had a gorgeous room with decorative sunflowers in plasterwork all around the ceiling. Highly recommended (see hotel tip). |
