Spent a month in Spain and travelled extensively to places like Cuenca, Escorial, Segovia, Salamanca, Avila, Picos (stunning), Camillos, San Sebastian (Donostia to the Basque), Olite, Ochagavia, Ordesa National Park, Val d'Aran, Andorra, Besalu, Figueres, Barcelona, Montserrat, Salou, Almeria, Trevelez, Seville, Granada, Pueblos Blanco, Ronda, El Chorro. This is a picture of the bridge at Besalu (historic capital of the region of La Garrotxa) parts of which are over 900 years old. That is the bits that haven't been battered by war or floods. The tower was added in the 14th century after the 1315 flood but was removed around 1880. At the end of the Spanish Civil War two arches and a part of a third were blown up but, finally, in 1965, the complete reconstruction of the angular bridge was finished. If you want more pics, check the travelogue out, especially the Andalucia one which is a personal favourite of mine. |
