Not quite Venice, but nice anyway Spent about 11 days in Germany and went to Mainz (Rhine), by accident as it turned out, then Bamberg, Dresden, Berlin, Berchtesgaden and Frankfurt. I found it easy to get around on public transport and found the people were helpful and society very organized. I thoroughly enjoyed my brief time and plan to revisit, next time to include Munich and some more southern locales. Picture is of "Little Venice" in Bamberg. If you like my pictures, there's the leftovers in my travelogue. |
| | The return I had enjoyed my first stay and thus, going a second time was always an option, one that I did in 2007. I returned to some of my earlier haunts, like Berchtesgaden and Dresden, but added many more, like Fussen, Frankfurt, Munich, Gorlitz and Erfurt, the latter two proving more fruitful than I'd hoped for. They offered a rich variety of history, much of it intact, from the middle ages through to the 19th century and its baroque splendour. |

I agree about Bamberg, Dresden and Erfurt, but I've never been to Görlitz (it's on my list) or Berchtesgaden (even you haven't convinced me to go there). | Trillian2005 Sun Jun 5, 2005 21:43 UTC Way cool Germany album - I should know, I'm from there! :-) And I wholeheartedly agree with you about that weird stuff in churches!! | Colzy Mon Feb 14, 2005 13:14 UTC Thanks for your birthday wishes! Nice Germany tips - I agree about the exhibits at the Pergamon Museum. On a huge scale and completely amazing :) |
