Everyone seems to want to know about Greece. Well, I visited Santorini, Rhodes and Athens and over the next couple of months will add my pictures and a couple of travelogues. This badly melded shot is of the 260m high cliffs that you have to climb to the town of Thera, either by walking, donkey or cable car. Santorini is dramatic and everything you see in the postcards but, personally, 3 or 4 days there and, unless you're honeymooning, you might want to move on. For mine, Rhodes had a lot more to offer. There's more of it, more history, more restaurants, more variety. Just remember though, summer is not a good time to go if you wish to avoid crowds and the beaches generally are ordinary with a couple of exceptions. Athens is as polluted as they say and the smog has a nasty habit of just hanging around. The one thing you can't ignore is the Acropolis and why they stuffed up the splendid staircase for wheelchair access when they could have made a specific entry is beyond me. Despite all this I do have fond memories of Greece and I fell in love with Lindos. |

Mikebb Sun Nov 18, 2007 01:42 UTC Hi Ian, Nice tips on how to tour the islands, I think island hopping by ferry will be better than the 6 hour stopover cruise boats provide. | LoriPori Wed May 9, 2007 23:25 UTC As we will soon be off to Greece - Athens and Santorini - I was interested in what you had to say about it. Great tips and wonderful pix. | SWFC_Fan Fri Sep 8, 2006 22:49 UTC Great tips and photos, Ian! I've visited Lindos a few times, but not for 10 years or so....it's a lovely place, isn't it? And Santorini is breathtaking! Thanks for sharing your pics and stories! | el_ruso Fri Dec 9, 2005 23:46 UTC Great photos and info! I hope to see Greece someday, too. And thanks for visiting my page. |
