"An Australian Icon" Top 5 Page for this destination Cradle Mountain-Lake Saint Clair National Park by iandsmith

More to see than Dove Lake and Cradle Mountain

There are heaps of walks here; my advice is to allow a few days and get to do more than one. My favourites are anything that involves Crater Lake and this picture will hopefully sum it up more than any words I can add.

What you came to see

Cradle Mountain or the boat shed. These are the images relayed around the world and what attract the vast majority of tourists. There's a reason for that, they are seriously scenic.
Nearly always the best time to do walks is early morning (when this picture was taken) though Cradle Mountain at sunset is an excellent time for photography as well.

Think outside the square

One of the almost unheard of lakes is right beside Dove Lake, just a few hundred metres away but invisible from Dove. It's called Lake Lilla and, along with the Wombat Pool, is very scenic and worth walking to.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Some great walks, good accommodation, lots of information
  • Cons:Weather can be awful, lots of tourists on Dove Lake track
  • In a nutshell:If you're into natural scenery, it's a must see
