An ancient landscape

This is an iconic place in the landscape of Australia. The Flinders, as it is commonly known, sits a few hundred kilometres noth of Adelaide in Australia's driest state and the surrounding scenery reflects that but, in the gorge, there are places where the gum trees are writ large upon the scenery and seem to defy the lack of water. Though when I was there the second time there was some water and it looked totally different as you can see in later tips.

The gorgeous gorges

This is a shot taken at the Bunyeroo Gorge and gives you some idea of what to expect in the area.

Aboriginal art

There's also some art sites if you know where to go. This was taken at Arkaroo.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Eyecatchinhg scenery, lovely weather, genuine outback country
  • Cons:Avoid in summer, it can get seriously hot, dusty roads
  • In a nutshell:I'm going back and spending a few days next time

Now THIS is my kind of place. Wanna load the expedition vehicle and explore. Gonna need more memory cards for the camera. What gorgeous pictures!

Great page on a great part of the world, Ian. I'm constantly being amazed that there aren't more pages on places like this - and to see I'm only the second to comment on your page!
