Into the hills

I'd pit-stopped Dresden on a mere whim while travelling from Prague to Berlin. As is most always the case with these type of stops it only left me wanting more so, this time when I ventured into Germany, I actually planned to stay a few days in Dresden and, hopefully, push south and see the spectacular rock formations of "Saxon Switzerland".
I also wanted to get off the beaten track, and Gorlitz seemed to fit the bill.
In the end, with one notable exception, I achieved all that and more.

My next trip deep into Land Sachsen saw me spend 5 nights in Bad Schandau. Here I got more in touch with the wonderful national park surrounding the area.
I also did a day trip to Dresden to see the fabled Green Rooms

Gorlitz - a destination without the tourists

Gorlitz is slowly awakening from a lack of tourists. This evolution will be slow I predict and, I for one am glad.
It's a special place and if you're a genuine traveller, my advice is to put it on your schedule.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Some fabulous history, dramatic natural scenery, wonderful arts
Cons:In some places, Dresden is touristed out
In a nutshell:A great variety of natural and historic scenery

Been a while since I read such articulate and informative tips. The photos are wonderful too. I also love smaller untouristed cities but fell hopelessly in love with Dresden. :))
