Favorite Thing: Overlooking Karimabad and the green valley of Hunza, this beautifully restored fort showcase the wonderful style of the local architecture. Unfortunately, the entry fees was too steep for stingy me (trying to pinch my way through...). And I did not managed to get the local price to enter even though I tried my best to look "LOCAL"?

Favorite Thing: Chapursan valley opened up to tourism 4 years ago after the withdrawal of the Talibans. Beyond these mountain ranges is the Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan. Also, the Hindu Kush meets the Karakoram and the Pamirs here in these valleys. Babu Ghundi is a day trek away from Zood Khun. The main village consisting of one tiny stone built shop and one guest house operated by the famed Alam Jan. Baba Ghundi had a shrine which attracts pilgrims from all around the valley. The inhabitants of the valley were the Wahi tajiks. And because I speak a little Farsi, (dialect of Tajik?) we could communicate quite easily.

Favorite Thing: The people in the valley face harsh living conditions. During the harvesting months before autumn, they would need to spend hours and hours in the fields sowing their harvest. And by spring time next year, all the food would have been consumed and thank goodness, the valley is now opened. Thus, the once daily Zood Khun to Sost jeep would bring supplies when the village had ran out of its own,.

Favorite Thing: After a sternous climb to 4300m, I reached the bend of the unnamed glacier. From here, it would be another days trek to the pass at 5500m. It was hot and sunny one minute, and nearly a blizzard the other. The size of the hail cannot be underestimated!!! There truly were no shelters around!

Favorite Thing: Well..If I would have more time, I would have love to cross the pass and border into China. But, its not meant to be. Sost is generally a border town, a place with heaps of trading around. Also, my connection to Chapursan valley. NOTE: It's the best place in the KKH to gaze and gape at those impossibly ornamentated trucks. Yes, pride of the drivers!!!!

Favorite Thing: Passu, under a cloud laden sky would be the gloomiest place in the world. Surrounded by 7000 meters plus peaks, only a small amount of light would shine through. If its sunny, it's mountain galore. With the most beautiful rugged mountains bathing in glowing light, you might not want to leave!

Favorite Thing: Around passu, there are tonnes of choices for treks. Be it a 2 weeks long expedition or a day trek, all would take your breath away! ( both physically and emotionally). I did two short treks myself and was absolutely spent..... In this picture, see if you could see the tiny trekker at the bottom left of the page!
