Cuba's second largest city (500,000)and capital of the Oriente. Festival of Latin Music and Carnival are two big celebrations in July! Be forewarned that my friends could not find accomodation when they were here at the beginning of Carnival July 21, 2002! So if you are here at that time it's a good idea to have reservations.
The Oriente has a much more relaxed feel to it possibly due to it's distance from Havana. Santiago is is where the Pope gave a large outdoor speech. The area has many wonderful villages thatlet you get in touch with the "real Cuba". This is a great city to have as a base for exploring the ecological attractions surrounding Bacanao and the almost untouched beaches to the west.
I'm starting to like the look of this page and there will be more here! Buenas vacaciones!
