this is where i began my backpacking trip. i was greatly anticipating athens because of its proximity to the ocean and its rich cultural history. ive always respected greek/classical art and couldnt wait to see the acropolis, as well as taste some authentic souvalki and gyros. needless to say i was NOT disappointed. i loved every aspect of athens and contrary to what i had heard, athens is pretty clean. probably cause theyre in preparation to host the 2004 summer olympics.

i also went to corfu, an island off the western coast of greece. i stayed at the pink palace. which was off the hook. parties every night and luxury accomadations for a hostel.

i plan to come back to greece and visit athens AGAIN, and to do some greek island hopping. which ive heard are spectacular and beautiful.

the picture above is a panaoramic of the city of athens from the top of mt. lykavittus. its about a 30 minute hike up the mountain but well worth it. athens is simply majestic and a great example of a city the developed sprawlingly.
