When I was sixteen, I traveled to Tenerife with my high school class. It was the end of the scholar year, the weather was great, I have some money in my pocket; summarizing: I was sixteen... An intense travel, indeed... even an excessive one, sometimes.
Above everything, it was my first experience of parental freedom, of being by myself, facing the world by my own means. I can say without hesitation that that week in the Island changed everything.

But this page is not about that Island.

The Island that was waiting for us was a different one; it was wealthier in sunsets, the air was clearer and much more fragrant, its inhabitants (the native ones, not the imported from Germany) lived a relaxed live that I certainly envied. The same places that only brought boredom when recalled were suddenly full of an unexpected beauty.

Tenerife, this Tenerife, was the best of the possible surprises, though I'm positive the place hasn't changed at all during this past decade. I guess the difference is just that I'm no longer sixteen...
