"Day Trip to Heidelberg from Frankfurt" Heidelberg by volarevolare

Of course you can drive or take a bus, but we took the train from the Main Train station in Frankfurt to Heidelberg.

It took about an hour to reach there and the tickets can be purchased in advanced or on the spot.

Trains run to Heidelberg daily and there's almost one every hour or so...

Just check out the train schedules which you can get from the stations.

It's very easy to find your way around once you've got your bearings and settle in...

Heidelberg! Here I come!

On the way to Heidelberg, we got seats in a train cubicle. So it's nice and private and really comfy!

As you can see, it's great to get a window seat.

Also, it wasn't crowded on the way to Heidelberg, so that meant that the train was pretty empty.
This was not so when we went back in the evening, as there were more people commuting back to Frankfurt and the train took a longer time, as it did more stops along the way back.

The best thing about taking the trains would be to actually pre-book so that you're ensured seats -- probably be able to make requests like for aisle seats or window ones.

If you buy them on the spot, like we did, it's free seating!

The long street towards the Schloss!

Once at the train station, you have to hop on a bus that will take you to the old part of Heidelburg -- towards the Schloss aka. the Castle, which is the focal point of this town I would think.

Here you see the quaint cobbled street lined with shops on both sides!

It's a good long walk to the Schloss but it's a nice walk through the street. This street reminded me a lot of Verona.
