Built almost a thousand years ago, on top of a small hill in the middle of Le Roy bay, St-Michel abbey is probably the most wonderful construction everbuilt.
Guarded by monks and French warriors during the 100-year war, this French fortress withstood numbers of England's attacks and therefore became the proud of France.
The surrouding dene was probably the reason why this place was so successfully guarded. The dene is simply a dangerous place. Either the tide can flood the whole bay within a few 10 mins or quicksand can "eat" people without making any noise.
It will be a great experience to see Le Mont St Michel from the dene, but never trade this with your life. |
