Valkenberg Park

Favorite thing: Valkenberg Park is located on your way to the city center from the train station. During the day it is a great place to visit. Originally the park was the part of Breda's castle which is used by the Royal Military Academy nowadays. In the times of knights and counts only noble people were allowed in the park. The place was known for its very high trees. After the park became public some of the trees were cut and later all the paths were paved. And there's still enough garss to realx on, many ducks and geese to feed by the lake, and of course the paths on which you can cycle or rollerblade. Often, walking through the park you may come across a market, a show, or some other small event, espeically during the summer time

Favorite thing: Looks like Breda really inspires people to enjoy music and even to make profession.
Not only Breda is home of annual Jazz festival, and untill 2004 the host of natonal Taptoe, but is also a hometown of the world's famous DJ Tiesto and the manager of Elvis Presley, Colonel Tom Parker who was born in Breda in 1909 as Andreas Cornelius van Kuijk . I'll keep serching, maybe Breda has produced more talented people.

City wall tower

Favorite thing: I have walked through the Valkenberg park enormous amount of times and never noticed it before. Shame on me! If you walk through the park from the train station toward the Begijnhof you'll find these remains of the place where one of the city wall towers was situated.

The Nassau-Baronie Monument

Favorite thing: Breda has strong connection to the Royal House of Orange Nassau . In the 15th century the German count Engelbrecht van Nassau married the heiress of the first Lord of Breda. Right at the entrance to the Valkenberg Park you?ll find the Nassau-Baronie Monument, which was ceremoniously openned by the Queen Wilhelmina. The shields which can be found at the bottom of the monument used to belong to small municipalities in and around ancient Breda.

Grote Markt

Favorite thing: This statue can be found in the middle of the Grote Markt, infront of the famous cafe-bar "Dante". Can't really tell what the statue symbolizes, but actually the tip is about the Grote Markt. It is the main square of the city where most of the cafes, bars and restaurants are situated. Besides that you can find there the VVV - Tourist information office, a small hotel, and the pride of Breda the Church of our Lady
