The story of an unplanned trip....

by Nathalie_B - last update: Jan 9, 2009

Imagine just an ordinary day at work, 2 days before the New Years Eve in a country where New Year is celebrated in September/October. Boring isn't it?

And now imagine that you work for a travel company and all of a sudden receive and e-mail from an airline company telling you that if you can be at the airport within 1,5 hours you get a flight to Madrid at a very attractive rate, $120 to be exact.

Coming to work on December 29th at 9am I couldn't even imagine that in just 5 hours I'll be running to the airport to catch my flight to Madrid.

On the way to the airport I made a phone call to my friend who was visiting her parents in Madrid and "ordered" her to pick me up at the airport.

The unplanned trip turned into a great experience in the Spanish capital
In April 2007 I came back. Just couldn't live with the feeling that I didn't explore enough. I was fascinated by the city when I first saw it and I wanted to see more.

Over the year, Madrid didn't change much. But I still wanted to see new, to me, corners and to visit the already explored ones.
This time Plaza Mayor looked diferent, because the X-mas market wasn't there. Puerta del Sol was less busy, 'cause New Year's Eve was over long ago. And the city itself wasn't as packed with its hard working inhabitants, because most of the people went to spend their Easter vacation else where.

To conclude my second trip to Madrid: I'm still inlove with the Spanish capital and will definitely go back, again.
On January 24th, 2008 I was supposed to be fired from my job. It didn't bother me, I even started planning another trip. No not to Madrid, to Hawaii, actually I already had my ticket. But one phone call changed it all: "You're getting company's next project, you're getting a raise, and.... you're going with me to Madrid, next week."
Now, will I ever stop coming to Madrid by chance? And why the hell did you have to promote me exactly, when I wanted to go back to Paradise?
However, Urzu and I were happy. I had 4 days to spend in Madrid, only 5 hours of which were work. And I got my revenge, Ursula gave my boss a tour of Madrid until he got pain in his back and couldn't walk anymore. The next day we put him on a train to Toledo and wished him best of luck! :)

Hehe O'Neill's. I can't remember what drinks I had... it was all a blur. Fun place to meet up with people to start off the evening. Planning to return to Spain within 6 mths (either Jan or May) for BCN, maybe MAD. I will return!

Dear Supplier, Many thanks for your excellent package. However, I note that in these operating conditions, package is likely to last no more than one week before self-destruction! Gillybob greetings
