Beale St
Memphis was a very dirty intimidating place, but the restoration work in downtown is cleaning things up.

The main attractions here are Beale St and Gracelands. Both well worth a look.

Once you left the downtown area though, Memphis looked a very dodgy place. Maybe it is not, but the impression I got was not too positive.

The bus to Gracelands passed some rough looking areas, and my trip to the Youth Hostel, probably the toughest neighbourhood I have ever been to.
