  • There are over 2000 restaurants in Edmonton so it's hard to pick a favorite . The Red Ox Inn on Connors hill is cozy and the food and service is outstanding.
There are many oriental dining spots as well and one I frequent is Jumbo in the west end on 170 St @ 105 Ave. Excellent dim sum!!

You will find eateries to suit every ethnic group and culture. Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, East Indian, Greek, French, Italian, Ukrainian just to name a few. In Stony Plain where I live, I have to put in a plug for Spiro's in the Ramada Inn. This jolly Greek has a warmth and wonderful family menu at very reasonable prices. Try his souvlaki!.

For Pizza in Edmonton....hands down, the winner is Funky Pickle on Whyte Ave (82 Ave @ 104 street) http://www.funkypickle.com/ with Royal Pizza on 80th Ave nearby also a rave with pizza eaters.

Tom Goodchild has without doubt created the best steakhouse restaurants in Edmonton.

The original is located on Gateway Boulevard-Calgary Trail, just north of the Whitemud freeway. 4745 Gateway Blvd.

    Other locations:

    West end: 170 Street @ 95 Ave,
    9504 - 170 Street (Terra Losa)

Favorite Dish: Steaks, roast beef and seafood in enormous quantities plus a great atmosphere of turn of the century logging in Western USA and Canada.

Barb & Ernie's is more than just a restaurant....it's an institution! Located on the south side in a light industrial area , it's been the mainstay for many a hungry trucker, plant worker, student or just plain folk.

Owner, Ernie in his thick accent says " Ve like people to be well fed"

Needless to say, the quantitles he serves up are enormous!!!

Favorite Dish: The Eggs Benedict! It's just the best!!!

I had the privilege of dining here some time ago and found it just wonderful! It's not a very big place, but it makes up for size in the quality of it's food and the preparation. It seats about 30 patrons.

    Reservations recommended.

Favorite Dish: Great seafood!!! But also great salads, beef dishes and desserts. An excellent wiine list as well.

Grandma D's BBQ Cookhouse: Humungous burgers!!!!

This little place in a small industrial strip mall near Princess Auto in the west end makes undoubtedly the biggest burgers I've ever encountered...anywhere!

It caters mostly to the walk-in lunch crowds. They prepare everything from scratch, including their famous BBQ sauce.

Favorite Dish: The pictured burger is a double Mozza-mushroom burger. I had a difficult time opening my jaws wide enough to take the first bite. The use 7 oz. beef patties. Of course, then they load it up with a variety of toppings...you name it they have it. Price was $6.75 including tax.

    They also make great chili.
