"Moraine Lake and the Valley of the Ten Peaks" Moraine Lake by Darby2

Moraine Lake Travel Guide: 11 reviews and 46 photos

Nothing else says Alberta, and Canada like this scene in the Canadian Rockies, near Lake Louise. It was once featured on the back of our $10 bill.

A short 14 km drive from the Village of Lake Louise will get you there...just follow the phalanx of tour buses, motorhomes and campers. The road is rather narrow and steep as it hugs the shoulder of Mt. Temple, one of the most incredible ramparts nearby.

In many respects, I think it out-does Lake Louise. for its over-all effect on the senses.

While I was there, there were no fewer than 12 tour buses disgorging mostly Japanese tourists who proceded to scramble 2 or 3 abreast up the trail to the "rockpile" (read: moraine) for a view and the snapping of videos and stills.

If the weather is clear, make sure you go early in the morning as the lighting is best then, since the mountains face east.
