I attended Sun's JavaOne #5 conference in San Francisco in 2000. So did 20,000 other people interested in learning and doing more with the Java programming language.

It was very fun. I did not get much time to sleep that week. But boy, I sure had a good time!

While I was there I tied for second place in a Java cell phone programming contest sponsored by Motorola. Big prize! They were very generous and very competent and skillful business wise. They new what they were doing and were great at it.

Sun was the consumate host. The conference was kind of expensive since it was out of my pocket. The stay in nearby downtown San Francisco hotel was incredibly expensive by my standards - but necessary, given the long hours I was putting in at the hotel.

I wish I hadn't rented and garaged a rental car while I was there. I drove it only from the airport to the hotel and then back again to the hotel. Big waste of money my transportation strategy for in town that was. Air fare rates were very reasonable toand from San Francisco from DC for that conference.
