  • The Europa hotel has the dubious distinction of being the most bombed hotel in Europe. Thankfully those days have largely gone from Belfast and you should be assured of a largely undisturbed nights sleep. Pricewise it would be at the top end of the market, but for this you get a superb central location within stumbling distance of most of Belfast’s top nightspots and attractions.

You will always be assured of craic in any of its three bars and you will have no shortage of both local and international characters to pass a few hours chatting to.

  • The McCausland is very much the hotel for those in the know. Close to both the Waterfront Concert Hall and the Odyssey arena complex it is handy for all amenities towards the east of the city.
Rooms are tasteful and larger than average and food is excellent.
A top tip would be to book in advance through an agency otherwise you will pay twice the price on arrival.

Unique Qualities: Great location and beautiful buildings

  • One of Belfast's cheapest hotels, yet only 100m from one of Belfast's most expensive, the Europa. Clean and well serviced, it must be a serious contender for families and those on a budget

Unique Qualities: Look out for their great multi night offers

Belfast International Youth Hostel: Winter in Belfast

  • With the reputation of being one of the UK’s best youth hostels, trade is always brisk and booking in advance is a must where possible.
One thing I feel I must point out however is that the hostel is in quite a bad area. During the June and July there can be considerable amounts of political trouble in this area. Over the last number of years riots and both racial and sectarian attacks have occurred. Ironically, at any other time of the year, the area isn’t too bad, but I could not in all conscious recommend it to visitors over the summer period.

Unique Qualities: Possibly Days Hotel woul dbe a better option for travellers. In a better area and really not that much more expensive, especially with two or three sharing a room.

  • I do believe this is Belfast’s most expensive hotel. It has everything you would expect and is now the chosen doss house of visiting dignitaries (Bill Clinton and Pavarotti to name but two). Really it depends what you are after in a hotel, but the Hilton will be the same as its sister hotels all over the world. SO if you are after familiarity in luxurious surroundings, this could be the place for you. If you are after somewhere with a local flavour tray McCauslands Hotel or the boutique 10 Square. Both a 5 minute taxi ride away

  • Quite a handy location for many of the bars and nightlife in the area. Quite well priced and rooms are passable. But be careful if your breakfast is not included in your package. I made this mistake a few years back and was charged 12.50 stg for a coffee and danish!
Plenty of cafes and restaurants in the area who will be more than happy to give you a 3 course dinner for that price.
The hotel has secure car parking which you should avail of. As it is in a student area you may find your car in a slightly worse condition than you left it if you dont. Other than that the area is perfectly safe.

Though very nice, Belfast Lough, Northern Ireland mostly resembles the lake in that photo nil. While hills do rise up not far from the lough, Belfast Lough lies at the immediate coast of a flat land basin.

That car parking photo does bring back memories of the CA freeway....... which, by the way, I do not miss at all.
