At the beginning I suppose. Generally a very good place to begin.

Some of my earliest memories hail from Portstewart. Growing up in Belfast during the worst of ‘The Troubles’ it was always a haven where my family went during the summer to escape at least some of the madness. Driving to the town, you eventually come over a hill and before you lies one of the most fabulous sea views. To the front you see the rugged coast line, generally being lashed by waves summer or winter. To the left, one of the finest beaches in Ireland and to the right, the North Antrim coast. One of Ireland’s internationally renown beauty spots. It doesn’t get much better! Even though I see it a couple of times a week these days, this view still takes my breath away and I can feel the the waves washing away the stresses and stains of everyday life. One deep breath and everything seems to be all right again.

Two years ago, I managed to buy a holiday house in the area. Shall we say it was in need of a little TLC. ‘A project’ I believe the term is. Like most construction jobs, things got a lot worse before they got better, but thankfully now , 24 months later, the place is pretty much the way I want it. If I can just move the houses in front of me and a small hill, I would have one of the most wonderful sea views in Ireland. But that’s a job for another day!
