Shaking hands at 10,000 feet - Taupo Region

I can fly!

In Taupo I made my first tandem parachute jump. It wasn't scary. After all, I'd watched three planeloads go up and come down safely, so I thought "why not?". So with a nice Israeli man called Elad attached to me, I jumped out of the little yellow aeroplane at 12,000 feet. It was reassuring to know that Elad knew exactly what he was doing - well so he told me anyway!

The freefall of 40 seconds or so was quite uncomfortable, as the wind wooshed around your face. I was worried about swallowing flies or small birds, but was told later they don't go up that high! Anyway, I kept my mouth shut.

Once the chute opened and we started floating down towards the ground, I thought "now I can enjoy it"! But Elad started twirling us around, and I started to feel seasick. It got worse as we got further down and I felt really grotty by the time we landed.

Pros and Cons

Pros:Lots to do - fishing, bungy jumping, water skiing, jetboating
In a nutshell:Adventure capital of N.Z.

I too would be worried about the little birds and things... sorry that you didn't feel so well afterwards, it is a pity because you would have had much more fun if you could have perhaps been able to look around rather going round and round??

Jumping out of planes just isn't for me ~ flying without jumping out is bad enough! Greets :o)
