Museo Nacional-National Museum: A MUST DAY IN SAN JOSÉ
  • Tip Rating:
  • As my backpack decided to take sightseeing tour to Houston I was forced to stay one day in San José. I didn't want to buy sun screen there knowing I had enough with me though not to be used at that moment. It was very hot and the sun was shining brightly so I decided to spend the day indoors. My choice was the National Museum - Museo Nacional. I am not by any means a person who likes to spend a lot of time in museums and trying to see as many of them as possible and I was not expecting anything from my visit to this museum, but it turned out to be very interesting and there was so much to see. At the time they had an exhibition, if you can call it that, of exotic butterflies, which I enjoyed very much. There was also an exhibition of African costumes, another interesting one for me. I also found other exhibitions most interesting. Pre-Columbian artifacts, colonial objects, religious art, minerals, fossils, gold, .....Not a bad way to spend a day after all.

Things To Do: La Merced, church and a park
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • On my way to buses I passed by this church several times and had a quick look inside. I am not really a church person so it held no special meaning for me. Next to it is a popular Parque la Merced where locals like to spend their spare time chatting with friends.

    National Theater: TEATRO NACIONAL
  • Tip Rating:
  • In my opinion the most beautiful building in San José. I should have gone in to see what it looks like, but now it is too late to think of it! The theatre was opened in 1897.

During the day the building is open to the public for viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Comments for Sininen about San José

Nuestra Tierra is one of my favorite restaurants when I'm in San José. The typical Costarican food is ok, but I've had it better and cheaper elsewhere. The address is Avenida Segundo (NOT Avenida 1)

I enjoyed your San José comments. What a pain that one has to watch their back like that.

Good information & pictures. I have heard similar opinions about San Jose--too bad since it is the country's capital.
