My trip to Jordan | My self Relaxing in the desert (Wadi Rum) |
April 2007 Only a few hours drive from my home I could cross the border and visit Jordan already years ago… I was thinking of visiting there many times at the last few years but each time something came up and it was cancelled… I think partly cause I didn’t really feel safe going there. We Israelis are not very welcome in Arab countries and I carried with me my trauma from the Egyptian border at Taba in my last trip in 1999 (which was definitely my last trip to Egypt) so all this didn’t motivate me to visit our Jordanian neighbors.
2 weeks ago I decided that I’m going ! enough with too many thoughts and fears, I just want to go. I made one phone call, joined a trip to Jordan (Jeeps trip to Wadi Rum and a day visit to Petra). Not in my dreams I expected this beauty and stunning landscapes, The lovely and welcoming attitude of the Jordanians whether in the Border or Anywhere else we’ve been to. Not for nothing people talked and kept comparing their visit to Jordan to their visit to Egypt (and Im talking about both Israelis and tourists from other countries). I have to say that even if some of the Jordanians still do have negative feelings for us Israelis (due to the obvious situation) they had never showed it, not even once.
Another thing that made this trip so good was the people I met during this trip. We were 11 people, (6 tourists and 5 Israelis), among them very interesting and great people, that have definitely made a lot of difference and I had a fantastic time !
I returned from this trip very happy, very overwhelmed, with great energies and knowing I’m going to go back there for sure.
I think there is a lot of information about Jordan, whether on the web or in books therefore in my pages I’m going to focus mostly about the frequently asked questions in the forums in order to make travelers life easier.
This days Petra is nominated to be one of the next 7 wonders of the world list, NOW I have no doubt it deserves to be included at this list. Check out the following website and vote for your favorit 7 wonders of the world
Unfortunately, it seems that no camera, no video movie (I’ll add one to VT group user in youtube.com) and no words can reflect the real beauty of this places, I so much hopped that at least the photos will do but I was very disappointed of the results both cause of the weather conditions at the desert and of the fact that the amazing colors just cant be seen as in real. Conclusion ? …read the last sentence….
One last thing I must say, one really Must travel and see (at least) Petra in a life time. Add it to your travel wish list, its more than worth… it’s a dream !
