It has been a while since I have visited Stockholm for the very simple reason that I used to go there a lot while studying in Turku and as well as later for business purpose. Nowadays I'm not been so keen on going there but because I like the city I might have a new trip there soon.
Boat trips were a lot fun and cheap entertainment for not so wealthy students! I think I headed to Stockholm 5-6 times a year (for 5 years) with my best friends so I think I know pretty much what cruising is about!
One of the main reason to go there so often was to bring back cheap alcohol. This happened before Finland entered EU! I also bought always some special things such as glasswear, many, many pairs of italian shoes (cheaper than in Finland) and sliced turkey-breast not found in Finland in the 80s'!
The boat left at nine in the evening from Turku, stopped in Åland and arrived at seven in the morning to Stockholm. Those early arrivals were always painful: a good dinner, disco-evening and hardly no sleep due to some merry people still carrying their fun in the cabin area! It was so difficult to wake-up but cabin maids forced everyone to get up and leave the boat!
There you were half-asleep in the cold thinking where to go waiting for the city to wake-up and shops to open at 10am!
On the other side, early mornings were a good opportunity to take pictures in the old town (Gamla Stan) - all street were empty!
Anyhow as we travelled mostly in wintertime we had to find a warm place to wait without spending money...LOL so we headed to the Gallerian shopping mall (Hamngatan 37) with the subway.
The rest of the day we shopped or sometimes visited museums, had lunch and lots of beer before getting back to the boat in the evening for another fun return sailing!
