Things To Do: Ayvalik
  • Tip Rating:
  • Ayvalik is 8 km away from Sarimsakli, the little buses called DOLMUSH that can take you for less than euro to Ayvalik. That is if you actually pay for it LOL you can play dumb when they come to take the money... or they can arrest you, or cut of your ears... (joking ) LOL So you should go and and visit it. There are lot of shops, brand names shops and little shops selling Turkish goods like leather jackets, wallets, typical Turkis stuff that you might want to take as souvenirs... More about Ayvalik in general tips...

    Things To Do: Pergamon, Bergama
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bergama is a little town 40 km away form Sarimsalki, there are tourist buses that can take you there. Why should you go? If you have dark shades on your glasses and it is noon and 40C temperature , and you try to take of your clothes and dark shades fall off and some kid finds them and break them in 3 peaces AND YOU STILL HAVENT PAYED FOR THE GLASSES!!!! That is why I went , well I didnt know that when I decided to go. Anyway, seriously now, the town is small and full of little shops selling carpets (cilims), silver and onyx. On the hill beside the town there is ancient Persian, Greek, Roman, Turkish town called Pergamon. More about that you can find on my Bergama page.

    Things To Do: Island Cunda
  • Tip Rating:
  • Island Cunda is not actually and island LOL It is connected to the mainland with a bridge. It is a little (not)island with a port and lot of fish restaurants. What I liked there is how they arrange the fresh fish in the refrigerators. The fish look like a painting... Anyway I like Cunda very much, and it is easy to get there by local bus or boat.

Things To Do: Island Cunda II
  • Tip Rating:
  • Like all towns and places in Turkey have a staue of Kemal Ataturk (a father of Turkish nation) or main avenue, or a bridge named after him, Cunda is no exeption to this. There is a statue of Kemal (photo5). It is really nice to take a walk by the sea... it somehow reminded me of Greece. Well this part of Turkey was inhabited by Greeks till 1925,during Kemal Ataturk presidensy, when "people exchange" was made. Greeks were sent to Greece, so Greeks don't live here anymore.

I think that in Turkey is forbiden by law to offend and misuse the name of Kemal Ataturk. Turkish people respect and adore him very much. He gave them latin aphabet, he stopped using Sheriat laws and since then they have only one wife.

  • There is an orthodox church in Cunda. It was ruined in some earthquake and it is forbiden to enter cause it is dangerous. I took some pics of the inside from the window. You'll see some white things on the bars on pics...I saw that on other places in Turkey western coast, you make a wish and tie that white cloth or paper and your wish will come true... I guess LOL ...or not...

    Things To Do: Go snorkeling...
  • Tip Rating:
  • You can buy cheap masks and do a little snorkeling on your own, pretend you are a sea monster and scare people arround OR go with serious people with boats to explore beautifull Aegean sea.

Things To Do: Sarimsakli at night
  • Tip Rating:
  • This little town sleeps till late afternoon. Then all little stands and shops get open and the sleepy little town doesnt look so sleepy anymore. Local live Turkish music everywhere... People selling everything form cheap clothes, jewlery, shoes... to all kinds of food and drinks.

  • What you should not miss is to go up on some hill called Seytan sofrasi which means Devil's table. Turks believe that the sunset you see form there is the most beautful sunset in the world. Now I haven't seen all the sunsets in the world and I can't judge that, but I saw this one and it is truly great and romantic Check all pics to see how it looks like..
People go up (there are busses to take you up) and wait for the sunset, you ll hear silent turkish music and you may have a drink in the restaurant. But dont get drunk and fall down, that might be dangerous!

    Things To Do: Swiming
  • Tip Rating:
  • Water is crystal clear and the sandy beach is nice. Now water can be colder somedays depending on wind and sea currents. While you swim you can see Greek island Lesbos, it is 15 km away from the Sarimsakli beach.

  • ...in the hotel swiming pool. I think all hotels have a pool, so if the water is cold or you prefer pool you can use that. I would always chose a clear see...
