You Know You're in England When You See... Nothing is more English than Big Ben, the Changing of the Guard, beautiful green gardens, train travel, tea, and books.... On our first trip to England with students (2002), one student burst into tears when she arrived from the subway station that lands you directly in front of Big Ben--an awesome sight at night...or any time. You really know you're in England when you see Big Ben. For information about our most recent student trip to London, see the London section on my travel pages. |

| | Finally...An English Teacher Sees England Thanks to an Alabama Classroom Enhancement Grant from the Department of International Education, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, I visited England and Scotland in 2001. Finally, I saw the land and met the people who had peppered my imagination since I was a child reading "Jane Eyre" and "Wuthering Heights." I spent the first week participating in the "Literary Landscapes" program at Manchester Language School, studying literature and seeing the locations that served as the setting or inspiration for the works and authors we studied. |
What? No chocolate frogs? Shades of Harry Potter's experience on a train between Manchester and Scotland.... | | | Time for tea on the train.... |
