The prefecture of Achaia lies in Pelopennese, at its northern and western part. It took its name by the Achaians who first came there about the 11th c. BC.
Patra, the capital of the prefecture and 3rd biggest greek city, is the natural gate of the country to the west (Italy), a major transportation centre. Patra is famous for its carnival too, the best of Greece.
On this page you can learn about my favorite church, Agios Andreas (Andrew), the cathedral of Patra. Saint Andreas the apostle was martyred in the city, he is the patron saint of it.
Achaia seems to have two... faces: many coastal villages with shady trees and picturesque beaches -a treat for the eye- but the heart of it are its mountains, the amazing green of the hillsides... Forests, a ski center (Helmos), historical monasteries -Agia Lavra, Mega Spileo- and towns as Kalavrita, caves etc. consist a really western beauty...

Interesting overview with good pics to support.
Nice page, lots of info.
I think you should visit Kalentzi in Achaia Andrea! Nice photos as always, i like this page:)))
Very interesting page, Andreas!! That bridge project sounds huge!! Not much time left...
Great area! And this magical bridge, just one my idea: could they renamed it to Olympic Bridge (much easier) and one question; will the bridge FREE? Hmm... I doubt.
The caves look magical. Great job!
