    The Citadel was built in the 1480's by Sultan Qaitbey.
    The entrance is through a gateway made of red Aswan granite.
    Also located inside the fort is the Naval Museum which contains artifacts from the Roman and Napoleonic sea battles

    This beautiful mosque, with its high minaret and four domes, is Alexandria's largest and one of the most important Islamic monuments.
    The interior is made up of eight monolithic granite columns.
    It was rebuilt in 1943 with the domes and the towering (73 meter) minaret.
    It is one of Alexandria's foremost religious buildings and women are not allowed inside the mosque proper, but may only visit a room at the back of the mosque

    These limestone tombs, which date from about 250 BC, are painted to simulate alabaster and marble.
    They are decorated with pictures of Egyptian gods and daily life, along with graffiti, which also dates from the same period. They were discovered in 1901 and 1921.

     When we lived in Alex 1980 there was no fast food other then the local filafal shops. San Giovannis was one of our favorite restraunts!! Please, does anyone have the Recipe for San Giovanni's Tomato Soup? Thanks!

     Alexandria is the second largest city in Egypt, It has an atmosphere that is more Mediterranean than Middle Eastern. There is so much to see in this city. go go goooooooooooo vt,,,yeahhhhhhhhhhh,,,,,ALEX4ALL
