PROVINS - A FAIRYLAND WHERE TIME STOPED Balzac said about Provins:”une ville aeree,a rues rapides,a beaux aspects, environnee de chemins creux”et”une ville a moulins, arrosee de (..)deux rivieres ,menues, lentes et profondes”. This words are still far from the beauty of this land. 90 km.from Paris you plunge into a medieval story,a city who`s history begins in 802 when Charlemagne sent two “missi dominici” to Provins. In XII century it pass to Counts of Champagne, decisive movement to its development.Since that period are celebrated Champagne Fairs.Very famous four its troubadours and safe behind its fortified walls Provins was a flourishing commercial town.Merchants from all Europe came here ; wool, spices, furs, jewellery and clothes made the objects of great markets. To be continued… |
| | For two days in a year you can go back in the Middle Age. Every june , the medieval fair is a good occasion to do this. |
