Growing up in the West Indies has shaped my travel desires - I seek out places where shorts make sense and snorkeling is a major past time and papaya and mangos are diet staples. I now live in a town of 2300 in Southwest Alaska, surrounded by tundra, islands of scrubby spruce scattered in the tundra, and the Wood Tik Chik mountains on the horizon 20 miles away. I moved from a rugged volcanic treeless island in the Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, and before that, a sweet town snuggled among the huge spruce and totem pole forests in Southeast Alaska, Sitka. I still choose vacations in warmer climates. I firmly believe that the more people travel internationally the more peaceful the world will become and admire all of you who have the bug. I suspect your understanding of your fellow humans and the environment we live in is greater than our stay-at-home brethren. I suggest we elect our United States politicians based on how much time they've spent working in other countries. What do you say? Do we have a movement? Happy travels. |
