  • Tip Rating:
  • Some people like to see the works of well known architects. If so, San Francisco has more than its share. The new San Francisco Public Library (near City Hall) was designed by I.M.Pei. John Portman designed Embarcadero Center, a 5 building development near the Ferry Building at the end of Market Street. The Transamerica Pyramid was designed by William Periera in 1973. Some people like to eat lunch in the atrium of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill's 101 2nd Street building.

  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Some people drive to Napa County, northeast of San Francisco to visit the wine cellars.

Day Trips: The University of California...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The University of California Berkeley is not too far from the beaten path. The Campanile tower is visable from parts of San Francisco. One can take the BART subway train to Berkeley station. AC Transit buses are somewhat cheaper and leave from the Transbay Terminal at Mission and 1st Streets. MUNI's 38 bus also leaves from the Transbay Terminal and goes to Union Square and then Geary Blvd. in the Richmond District. Several films were filmed on location at the campus including Claire Forlani and Freddie Prinze, Jr.'s Boys and Girls (2000). Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage, and Clair Forlani also starred in The Rock, filmed on Alcatraz Prison (1994).

Art / Music / Other Museums: Different people have...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Different people have different interests. If you like airplanes, there are 2 museums that are not too well advertised. The Hiller Aviation Museum is more well known having opened in the last few years. Located in San Carlos (in San Mateo county, south of San Francisco), they're specialty is helicopters. They have a website at http://www.hiller.org. The Pacific Coast Air Museum in Santa Rosa is north of San Francisco. They are not open every day. They have a somewhat rare N version of the F-16.

Architecture: Some people like to look at...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Some people like to look at the outsides of big houses. In San Francisco, the big houses are in Sea Cliff (near 49th Avenue in the Richmond District) and Presidio Heights (around Washington Street near Arguello Blvd.). Hillsborough, a suburb south of San Francisco, has larger homes. Marin County (north of San Francisco) has expensive real estate.

San Francisco is a great town. But, you GOTTA try staying at the Mansion Hotel over on Sacramento Street. (check my page for photos!) Good info.
